About the artist: Kirstie
Hi, I’m Kirstie, the artist behind Kirstie Makeup. A pro hair and makeup artist based in Auckland, working across weddings, events, television, film, and broadcast.
I’ve always been drawn to makeup for as long as I can remember. I’d sneak into the bathroom and try out my mother’s makeup. As soon as I got my first job at 16, most of my money would be spent on makeup of course. I made a YouTube channel at 17, posting makeup videos, reviews and GRWMs. I didn’t immediately step into the artistry world after school, I went and did a business degree - specialising in marketing. I worked in marketing for over 3 years before I made the switch to pursue makeup artistry.
My Experience & Background
I initially trained at The Makeup School, in Ponsonby, Auckland. Back in 2020 - we were the first class to be affected by the pandemic. After finishing my training, I had the opportunity to work in the world of live television, through Whakaata Māori (formerly Māori Television). Since then I’ve spent years working as a hair and makeup artist across television, current affairs, documentaries, film, events, and weddings. This diverse experience has shaped the way I work - to be calm under pressure, detail-focused, and adaptable to every face, skin type, and environment.
Bridal, Event & On-Camera Makeup
I work with:
Brides and bridal parties
Private clients and special events
Television, film, and media professionals
Photoshoots and branded content
Celebrity and red carpet clients
Whether it’s a wedding day, an important event, or being on camera, I believe makeup should enhance each person’s features and make them look and feel like their best self. My style is modern, polished, and timeless, with a strong focus on skin that looks like skin.
My Approach
For me, makeup is about more than the final look. It’s about the experience.
I take the time to understand my clients, prep the skin properly, and create looks that feel personal and wearable. I want you to feel confident walking into your event and not worrying about touch-ups or whether your makeup will last.
I’m also passionate about educating and empowering clients, whether that’s through skin prep advice, product knowledge, or helping the next generation of artists fall in love with the craft the way I did.
Based in Auckland, travelling New Zealand.
I’m proudly based in Auckland, offering professional hair and makeup services across the region and beyond. I work both in-studio and on location, depending on your needs. I frequently travel to Waikato and Mangawhai and am always excited to take clients there.
If you’re looking for an experienced makeup artist who brings a calm, professional energy and consistently high-end results, I’d love to work with you.
